Course Overview

The Diploma in Nursing (NSG) is a comprehensive course that prepares you to become a versatile healthcare professional equipped with problem-solving skills and an eye for detail. You will learn how to manage medical conditions and get trained to make critical decisions that impact lives. In addition to core nursing modules, you will learn about behavioural and human biosciences. Upon graduation, you will be ready to practise as a registered nurse or tap into a wide range of career opportunities in the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries, locally and overseas.

Hospital Sponsorships
With the nursing profession in high demand, you can secure a reputable job even before graduation. Nursing students can apply for a hospital sponsorship that offers a monthly allowance ranging from $850 to $950.

Live and Learn Abroad
As a nursing student, you get to go on overseas study, immersions, exchange programmes and service-learning trips to countries such as Australia, China, India, Cambodia and Thailand. These trips offer insights into regional healthcare systems and give you the chance to put into practice what you have learnt.

Career Options & Further Studies

Upon graduation, you can apply for registration with the Singapore Nursing Board to be a registered nurse and practice in both government and private healthcare settings.

Your diploma will open doors for you to pursue degrees in varied fields at accredited universities both locally and abroad. You can apply for a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Nursing at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) which is jointly offered with the University of Glasgow (UofG). Close to 50 NP Nursing graduates were successfully enrolled in this degree programme last year.

Alternatively, you can choose to further your knowledge in a particular field by taking up an Advanced Diploma in areas such as Perioperative Nursing, Chronic Disease Management and Critical Care Nursing, or a Specialist Diploma in Palliative Care Nursing or Community Gerontology Nursing.

FOR STUDENTS WITH O-LEVEL EXAMINATION RESULTS

Candidates must have the following GCE ‘O’ Level examination (or equivalent) results

  • English Language1 – 7
  • Mathematics (Elementary/Additional)1 – 6
  • Science(with Physics, Chemistry or Biology component)

    or Human & Social Biology
    or Physical Science
    1 – 6

You must also fulfil the aggregate computation requirements for the ELR2B2-C Aggregate Type.

Due to the special requirements of the healthcare professions, all applicants applying for N69 (Diploma in Nursing) have to pass a medical examination and be certified to have the following abilities to perform patient care activities in a safe and effective manner:

• Mental ability (interpersonal ability and behavioural stability) to provide safe care to populations, as well as safety to self, and demonstrate self-control and behavioural stability to function and adapt effectively and sensitively in a dynamic role.

• Physical ability to move around in clinical environment, walk/stand, bend, reach, lift, climb, push and pull, carry objects and perform complex sequences of hand eye coordination.

• Auditory ability to hear faint body sounds, auditory alarms and normal speaking level sounds (i.e. blood pressure sounds, monitors, call bells and person-to-person report).

• Visual ability to detect changes in physical appearance, colour and contour, read medication labels, syringes, manometers, and written communication accurately.
