What is the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) License exam?

To practice nursing in Singapore, foreign-trained nurses must pass the SNB (Singapore Nursing Board) Registered Nurse Licensure Examination (SNB RN), which is a standard test. It is the regulatory authority for nurses and midwives in Singapore.

Who requires SNB (Singapore Nursing Board) License?

  • Nurses who pass this test will be registered with the Singapore Nursing Council and will be able to practice in Singapore afterward.

What are the types of SNB (Singapore Nursing Board) Licensure Exam?

  • Registered Nurse Licensure Examination
  • Enrolled Nurse Licensure Examination
  • Registered Midwife Licensure Examination

Who is eligible to apply for SNB Licensure Exam?

  • Foreign-trained Nurses / Midwives who wish to work in Singapore must be registered/enrolled with SNB.
  • Before SNB will evaluate your registration/enrolment request, you must have an offer of employment from an appropriate Singapore healthcare facility (with inpatient services).

For foreign-trained nurses, to be eligible for application for registration/enrolment, you must have the following:

  1. Successful completion of a nursing pre-registration / pre-enrolment program that is equal to a Singapore-authorised pre-registration / pre-enrolment nursing program.
  2. registration as a nurse or midwife in the country in which you received your training, as well as
  3. current practicing license as a nurse or midwife;
  4. recent five-year clinical nursing practice in one’s own nation.

  • A person must apply for registration/enrolment to be registered/enrolled with SNB
  • Login to the website.

Documents required

  • Passport photograph
  • A certified true copy of original documents.
  • Passport or NRIC (if applicable)
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Nursing transcripts from a university, college, or training facility (to include a detailed breakdown of theory and clinical practice in hours or weeks)
  • Training certificate(s) / Graduation Certificates
  • Registration certificate
  • Current nursing license / practising certificate(s)
  • Prior employers’ references/work testimonies are required to describe your work experience and performance and must be written by the Nursing Director/Head of Nursing to ensure that the information is accurate.

Steps for local graduates to apply for SNB license

  • The following SNB-accredited courses must be satisfactorily completed before an applicant can submit an application for registration or enrollment.
  • Within five years of graduating from your nursing education, you should apply for registration/enrollment. Otherwise, you have to attend the return program.
  • An application must be submitted online by yourself where payment must be made by:
  • eNETS Credit/Debit Card (VISA and MasterCard ONLY) (Note:  American Express (Amex)
  • eNETS Internet Banking ((DBS, POSB, UOB, OCBC, Citibank ONLY)
  • This is only eligible for people who are singpass eligible.

Steps for foreign-trained nurse/midwives to apply for SNB license

The application for registration/enrolment process includes the requirement to:

  • Must sit for a Licensure Examination;
  • Should undergo a competency assessment; and/or
  • and lastly placed on provisional registration/enrolment.

How to renew your Practising Certificate (PC)?

  • Nurses and midwives on the SNB Register and Roll receive a certificate allowing them to practice.
  • Return-to-Nursing programs are necessary for nurses and midwives who have not worked in the field for a period of five years.

To apply for the Practising Certificate (PC)

  • Complete Declaration on your fitness to continue nursing/midwifery practice; and
  • Make Payment for the fees.

Online Renewal

  • Check out the application and see the instruction here.
  • Online renewal transactions would be successful only if   Declaration Section; and Payment Section and payment is received by SNB are fully completed.
  • Update the details (contact number (mobile, home), an email address; employment address.
  • Make the payment with these payment methods (eNETS Credit/Debit Card,eNETS Internet Banking, GIRO).
  • SNB will announce on our website the issuance of PCs to Nurses/ Midwives.
